The boat type rowing and sailing boat from Blekinge

Characteristic for a rowing and sailing boat from Blekinge is the

pentagonal transom on the top of the sternpost.

The boards are few but wide and the entire boat must be built out of oak.

It was built in various sizes from 11 feet (3.30 metres) to 45 feet (13.5 metres). Depending on use it had different names such as fishing net boat, freight boat, skiff and more.

Originally it is a row and sailing boat which was rigged with spritsail. The bigger ones had two masts like the boat with the corf in this museum. In the 1800s, bigger assymetric square sails were used.

The boat type varies in a way that in eastern Blekinge, inshore, the boats were lighter with a thinner strake and frame, while in western Blekinge, with its open sea, they were built to larger dimensions.
