The fire extinguisher house

In earlier times there was no efficient response to fires. Most houses had thatched roofs and were very flammable. There were no fire brigades and each village had only a hand-operated extinguisher. From the end of the 19th century, Hällevik also had such equipment, which was kept in the fire extinguisher house. It is still there, but today it is only taken out on the annual Cultural Day in July so visitors can see it.
